Audit of Clinical Outcomes

Between 2009 and 2010 InHealth conducted a clinical outcomes audit to demonstrate:

1. The appropriateness of GP referrals

2. The implications for patient care through adopting the direct access pathway.

In particular, the audit aimed to understand how patient care has been improved by providing GPs with support in;

• Reassuring patients there was nothing wrong

• Adopting a ‘watchful waiting’ approach rather than refer for specialist treatment

• Initiating and continuing disease management within primary care

• Providing advice about and managing referrals for specialist treatment.

Please note, these tables contain data that is the result of a specific investigation by InHealth into GP’s views regarding the impact of direct access to diagnostic scans on the overall level of patient care for their specific patients. The results should not be applied to any other cohort of patients.
